Holly Hunter is an American actress and producer well recognized for her high-quality performance in films like Broadcast News The Firm The Piano and The Incredibles. The film Piano was awarded an Oscar. The successful actress began her acting career on the stage through a variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. When she was a kid, Helen Keller was her favourite character in a fifth year production. The fifth grade was the year that after having mumps she lost hearing in the left ear. She did not let it stop her from performing. The college she attended was drama before moving from Pittsburgh to New York City to follow her dream. Hunter was trapped in an elevator with the playwright Beth Henley when she met her. They collaborated to create Broadway Crimes of the Heart which marked Hunter's Broadway debut. After that, she moved to Los Angeles and tried to find films roles. The film, Swing Shift, she landed the role of a back-up. In the years since, she has been in a variety of TV movies and series over a career spanning more than 30 years. Holly Hunter is a Hollywood Walk of Fame celebrity as well as a winner of the Women in Film Lucy Award.
